my photos

Bakewell from RowanEmily95

So this is a PowerPoint of the photos that I think I'm going to use in my magazine. There aren't that any, as it wasn't the best day to go snapping pictures.

the Plan

I've had these plans for a while now, although they aren't particularly as detailed as I would have liked, they serve as my starting point for my magazine sections.
Please note- some of my final product elements that I have made so far are slightly different to my plan.

My Masthead

This is my masthead for my magazine. to find the fonts, I used a website called Dafont, which is a website that has a range of fonts for all kinds of purposes. For this I used two different fonts, Bower Shadows and... I used photoshop to merge the two images together and I am debating whether I should add some colour to the text.
I chose the name DoorStep Bakewell because it isnt just about the town itself, but about the surrounding area, including Ashford in the water, and the nature that is right on the doorstep of the residents. I think that if I were making this for real, I would make it part of a larger organisation that supply to rural areas, such as Bakewell, or in an earlier post, the Norfolk Broads. Too many people dont see what is right on their doorstep, which is why holidays are taken abroad rather than staying in Britain and exploring what they havent seen. I had a friend from cambridge who travelled to Sherwood forest for a holiday. This is what I aim to provide, more people exploring where they live.

Bakewell research

i have done some quick research of the area to get an idea of the kind of audience i will aim my magazine at. To do this, i have placed my findings on a spreadsheet, one commenting on the price of houses in the bakewell area compared to dinnington, and the other being the general age of the population within the area.

from this research, i have been able to determin that the people who live within the bakewell area are of high monetary income, because of the prices of the houses within the area, and that the majority of the population are between the ages of 35-84, the older generation.
i have decided that my aim though will be to apeal to the majority, that my regional magazine will appeal to a wide range of people for its diverse content, both directed towards high and low income, young and old, people who live there and people who often visit. it will be funded by the council, run by the council, due to its promotion of the town as a tourist location and a living location, and will be free.

Area Ideas

I have 2 area ideas in mind, due to my own interests, which involves wildlife, nature camping, etc. these places are both out of my reach, but one is closer than the other.

Norfolk
My first idea was the Norfolk broads. This is the place that my family and I go most years for a holiday, to a small village called Thurn. As it is a broad area (no pun intended) it may be difficult to choose a specific place to decide. Different aspects of the norfolk broads appeals to different people, but again, I would probably go with the natural aspect of the broads, rather than the seaside towns such as Great Yarmouth, because these are the aspects of the area I have grown up with. The problem with this area is that it is far too far away to gather my images and information, if I am to totally call my magazine a product of my own creativity.

Bakewell
My second idea was the area in and around Bakewell, Derbyshire. this is another place that my family and I go camping every year. The areat is vast, and hilly, unlike that of the Norfolk Broads, and this is why I prefer it. There are alot of places within the area that I could take pictures, be that within the town, or most likely due to my past, within the paths that lead miles away and to the place. I especially like the idea of the village a mile down the road from the town itself that depicts such a historical significance, Ashford in the water. Bakewell itself has its own history that I can draw upon to characterise my magazine and make it into something relatable by the public. This area is more realistic due to its close proximity to sheffield, and my mum and dad dont often need an excuse to go visiting, so i can easily convince them to take me.

i have chosen to use bakewell as my setting because of its mix of both town life and natural life, so it is appealing to the majority. for my cover im thinking of using the image of the large boulder with my cousin sat on top of it, because she is a young person, and could cause appeal to the younger generation. her walking attire, boots etc could appeal to walkers and otherwise older members of society.

My Equipment

In the development of my Cover, two page spread and contents page, I will use a range of equipment.

Cameras, to take the images on my project. This is the model that I have at home, the Olympus Tough camera, the images can both be sharply focused and intensely blurred depending on the way the camera is used, can survive up to 5 meters under water and is shock proof. It is a good model for me because I'm not as afraid to drop it as the cameras in school and still takes good pictures.
The memory sticks I have at my disposal are the SanDisk Cruzer Pop 8GB, which can be used for fast file swapping between computers.

The Apple Mac Computer is my primary computer, used in the schools media room,. But through my use of Macs, I feel that I am more comfortable using regular computers, such as my Dell Inspiron laptop that has become a perminant addition to my rucksack, and the usual computers used in the other computer rooms in the school.

Quark is the main computer programme that I must use to create my product, along side Photoshop to do my tweaking to my images. Whilst practicing I have found that opening a powerpoint to produce my word art makes me feel more confident with how my product develops, helping me create the look that I want with the software that I am familiar with. But for this product, I will be using Ps for the aspects rather than PowerPoint.
